Ever since I started GarageBoyz Magazine, I have had many people ask me how I plan to make money doing this. After all I don't chase after advertising , I don't have a subscription fee, and there is no donate button.
Truth be told, it really is not the priority right now. I just want to further enjoy the Kulture and community that I am part of. I am not a very mechanical guy, nor am I an artist, but I do have the passion to create something that contributes to our Kulture. As you can see from my modest Magazine site, I am not a web design guru either. I am just a biker, businessman, husband, and MoCo resident who lives,loves, eats,breathes and sleeps bikes and cars and all of the other stuff that is part of our lifestyle.
I figure that I can't be alone in this love of our Kulture, and with my being in the bike business I get to see some pretty cool behind the scenes stuff. I get to see bikes being built and customized, I get to see what other local shops are doing and some of the cool stuff that others may not get to see from the front of the store or the waiting area of the shops. I get to meet and talk with some of the most talented and dedicated mechanics, collectors and such.
All of the great bikes I get to ride and all of the amazing cars I see make me hunger for more. More knowledge, more information, more time to study every nut and bolt, and more time to talk with the owners of these machines. I want to know the story behind the bike or car, who built it, what history does it have and so much more. I want to tour the local shops and see the machines and tools and technicians that are part of putting these bikes and cars on the road. I love to meet the different tattoo artists and watch them put down some beautiful piece of art on somebody. I love to look at the paintings and flash they have on the walls.
Mostly though I have this burning desire to share this amazing stuff with others, and I want others to know about the shops and people and machines that are all here in our backyard. I want the shops to thrive and I want to see more kool stuff on the roads. There is an amazing and vibrant community here in MoCo and we should get to know one another and support one another's businesses.
This magazine has opened up many opportunities to dig deeper into the Kulture community within Montgomery County, and it gives me great joy to put together every month. Isn't that the true meaning of success? Getting to do what you love and helping your community along the way. So I'll worry about the money later, right now...its about the Love.
