How many times have you said or heard that this year...or some not so family friendly version ? I'm sure many of you are dying to get behind the handlebars or steering wheel for some winter project shakedown runs, or just some good ole fashioned cruising.
This has been a tough one for us all. Between a rainy season last year and this "winter wonderland" our quality bike riding and rod running time has been shortened. Well it's coming , it's right around the corner its... "THE SEASON" . Anybody like myself who works in the bike industry or car or tats, know that when it's time for most people to play, it's our time to work.
This is time that most shops make the bulk of their money, and as everybody knows, being in the making money business is getting a lot harder these days.
The slice of pie for all of us has gotten a lot thinner and some of the luxury money is the first thing to go. Some folks have had such a tough year or so, that they have had to part ways with their prized bike or car, to meet other financial obligations.
This has got me thinking. What would I give up to be able to keep my Harley and my el Camino? Would I get rid of cable tv, or stop eating at my favorite restaurants ? For most of us we could never imagine life without a bike or car, I sure could not.
Every minute of my life since I was 20 years old, I have owned a motorcycle, and since learning to drive a car 8 years ago , I have gone through my share of cars until I found ElCabingo my 84 el Camino. In the winter, when I have the car and bike up, I drive a beater 250,000 mile powder blue Subaru station wagon, a very uncool but reliable work horse.
My keeping this $1500 wagon going, so that I don't have car payments, is my way of being sure I am able to keep the machines I love.
