I had the chance
to drop by and talk with the guys at Tattoo Paradise in Wheaton this week, and
I always really enjoy it. The shop is a feast for the eyes and hosts an
incredible tattoo flash & art display. I love hanging out and shooting the
breeze with Shawn one of the tattoo artists and Willett the piercer. Both guys
have a true love and knowledge of the industry.
Talking with Shawn is
alot of fun, he loves and studies not only the art of tattooing, but its kulture
and history. You can really see his love of tradition in his work, which is an
incredible example of old school traditional. It's bold, colorful and
reminiscent of the tattoos of the past. Shawn is just one of the 6 tattoo
artists that can be found working there or in the Washington DC location.
Tattoo Paradise also has an amazing who's who of guest artists from all around
the world making their way through. You can also catch the Paradise crew at
conventions all over the country, as their love of the industry keeps them
constantly going deeper and deeper into the kulture.
It really is worth
taking a trip to the shop and visiting them online at www.TattooParadiseDC.com and
checking out the artists portfolio. Each artist had a diverse style as well as
being incredibly well versed in traditional good, clean ,solid tattoo
work.
The
shop itself has a great feel. It is super clean and crisp, but yet still feels
like a tattoo shop. The old flash and artwork is truly an amazing example of the
love of tattooing that these guys have. There is original artwork and flash
hanging throughout as well as vintage flash, that would make any collector or
connoisseur of tattoo art jealous.
The layout of the shop makes it appear
huge, but it still has an intimate feel. There are 4 tattoo stations,a drawing
area, a piercing room and a bio-room. The waiting area is sparse but
comfortable, but you'd be hard pressed to sit around anyway, with flash from
floor to ceiling (literally!!) there is just way to much to see. Not to mention
it is located in Wheaton which hosts some of the areas greatest ethnic foods, so
you can enjoy a bite to eat locally and pop back in for your
appointment.
Tattoo Paradise has been a welcome addition to MoCo's Tattoo
scene, and the owners, artists and piercer run an excellent shop that should be
on your list of shops to check out when your thinking about your next tattoo.
And as always don't forget to tell them you saw them in GarageBoyz
Magazine's KultureBlog.com.
